THE SOUND STUDIO

**UPDATE**

In the summer of 2022, we began the process of renovating the MM115 studio into a massively multi-channel immersive sound design space. The process is ongoing, and we’re excited to share the results with you when they’re more further along!

MM115 is the secondary design studio and laboratory for the sound design program. We also share this space with the ICIT program in the Music Dept. MM115 is built around a ProTools HD system with an Icon/D-Command control surface. We have the latest industry-standard plug-ins as well as sequencing, recording, video and virtual/sample instrument programs. Monitoring is via a custom configurable 5.1 surround system that is easily expandable into unlimited configurations in excess of 7.1.

The room is asymmetrical in shape and custom tuned to be a semi-live/diffuse environment free of flutter echo, resonance and destructive reflections. Custom air handling and acoustic doors/windows keep sound from getting in or out. It's a great place to mix!

There are two 52" 1080p LCD monitors and a LCD projector all patchable and connected to a DVI switcher (and VGA scaler).

Although it's cozy and small, there is a voice-over booth in the room.

The studio started out as a voice and speech laboratory for the graduate acting program. They moved into new digs just as the sound program came on line in 2006. Here is what the room looked like before:
